LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In a hectic holiday season plagued by a pandemic, health measures, social distancing, and working from home when we can, sometimes mailing holiday gifts might be the last thing we think about, but that could lead to presents missing on Christmas Day.

With so many packages being mailed due to an increase in online shopping, the COVID vaccine being shipped, and staffing shortages related to COVID, the pace is unprecedented and we might not get the delivery times we are used to having.

“Right now delays are about 1 or 2 days, expect that to increase this next week, this is the biggest shipping week of the entire year,”

Bailey Foken, with UPS in Lincon said. “So delays might bump up between 2 or 3 days but as long as people are on top of it and timely this week, we should be fine getting their stuff in time for Christmas.”

The UPS at 40th and Old Cheney said they have had record numbers since the pandemic started back in March and adding the holiday season, it’s only getting busier.

The United States Postal Service has this notice at the top of their website:

Even major retailers have on their websites and apps have a clear deadline on the last day to get regular shipping for Christmas and many of those are either December 13 or 14th.

A reminder, 2-day shipping means after the product leaves the warehouse, not from the day you order it. It still can take days for the item(s) to leave the warehouse.
