Home Instead wraps gifts for 600 Lincoln seniors

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Home Instead held its 19th annual Be a Santa to a Senior event at its offices in Lincoln on Wednesday.

Volunteers pitched in to help wrap and bag gifts for hundreds of seniors.

About 600 seniors were on a list to receive gifts, which meant that over 1,000 gifts needed to be wrapped in one day.

“It’s always amazing to just know that these people may be isolated or not have families in town and this may be the only gift that they’re getting this year for Christmas or whatever holiday they celebrate,” said Kirby Howerter, business coordinator for Home Instead. “To know we’re making a difference and a difference in aging adults’ life means a lot to us.”

The gifts were all donated or purchased from local businesses or community members.

Once they’re wrapped, the gifts will be delivered to senior homes to be distributed.
