Homeland Security agent reflects on her career during Women’s History Month
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Homeland Security agent is pushing for more women to pursue careers in law enforcement during Women’s History Month.
Agent Stella Owens says she couldn’t imagine law enforcement without the contributions of women.
“We need females in every single role of law enforcement,” she said.
Owens said that the profession is challenging but having outstanding women working makes the difference.
“They can pay really high attention to detail and that makes them helpful in piecing all the parts together when it comes to investigating a crime,” Owens said.
Owens attributes her inspiration to her mother, saying she empowered her to chase her dreams.
“I really sort of believe in that message for our young girls,” she said.
Regarding her career in law enforcement, Owens says her favorite part of the job is making a difference within the community.
“I love the element of surprise and seeing the smiles on folks’ faces when you’re able to tell them that there’s a conclusion to their investigation,” she said.
