After 46 years HoneyCreek restaurant is set to close

After 46 years of operation, over 4 million eggs, and 250,000 pounds of hamburger, HoneyCreek closes due to lack of staffing.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – HoneyCreek Pizza, Restaurant, and Catering announced the closing of their restaurant after 46 years of business in Waverly.

According to the owners of the restaurant, the decision was forced due to a lack of staffing.

The owners have been searching for employees for months and have had to previously shut down their dining room and use only their drive-thru because of staffing shortages.

Jim Wilkinson and his mother began HoneyCreek in 1976 under the name Shirley’s and later renamed the restaurant to SportsPage in 1979.  When the original owner retired in 1993, Jim and his wife Kathy bought out the restaurant, later changing the name to HoneyCreek in 2009.

In order to consider leaving the restaurant open, the Wilkinsons would need to find three full-time staff members.

According to the Wilkinsons, the restaurant will be open Wednesday through Friday this week from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Friday evening they will only run their drive-thru to accommodate for the lack of staff.
