Hot Start to the Week, Periodic Storm Chances
Above-average high temperatures continue into the start of the work week, with isolated chances for showers and thunderstorms. With September starting on Tuesday, we officially enter Meteorological Fall, though the forecast will still look more like summer.
Humidity will continue to push our feels-like temperatures to the upper 90s, if not close to 100 degrees for the week ahead.
Isolated strong to severe storms remain in the forecast through the end of the month. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for some portion of the state over the next several days. While not everyone will see storms, large hail and damaging winds would be the greatest concerns in any stronger storms.
Here is a look at what the radar could look like through the start of the work week, according to our latest run of StormCast. Keep an eye on the radar, as storm chances will likely be fairly scattered through the next couple of days.
Temperatures look to remain well above average in eastern Nebraska heading into Monday. Overnight lows will likely stay in the 70s for southeast Nebraska, with cooler weather to the west.
Variable cloud cover overnight will help us retain any heat we picked up on Sunday. We look to start the day off in Lincoln in the middle 70s.
We round out the month of August with highs ranging from the mid-80s to the mid-90s statewide.
Winds will eventually shift out of the northwest by Monday afternoon with a weak front moving through, though we are not expecting much in terms of relief from the heat in the Capital City.
Above-average temperatures continue for most of the Interstate-80 corridor on Tuesday, with the middle and upper 90s for southeast Nebraska.
The long term forecast favors temperatures in the 90s through the first week of September. While we see periodic chances for showers and storms, there is little confidence in seeing any widespread meaningful moisture. Be prepared for a hot start to the Husker Football Season next weekend!
