Weather Headlines:

Heat and humidity will have an impact on southeast Nebraska through Tuesday afternoon. A passing front will eventually bring cooler and drier air, though not without a few chances for showers and thunderstorms first.

Isolated severe storms are possible on Monday evening from southwest to north-central Nebraska. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place, with large hail and damaging winds the main concerns in the strongest storms.

Feels-like temperatures will make another run north of 100 degrees in southeast Nebraska. A Heat Advisory will go into effect at 1 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m., with heat indices up to 107 degrees.

The risk for severe weather shifts into southeast Nebraska on Tuesday. Isolated severe storms are possible on Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a Marginal Risk of severe weather in place. Large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding will be the main concerns with this round of storms.

It could be a good week ahead for rainfall, especially for eastern Nebraska. Models indicate that upwards of an inch of rainfall could be possible for eastern Nebraska through the week ahead.

Forecast:

It will be another warm start to the day on Tuesday in eastern Nebraska, with overnight lows near 15 degrees above average for early September.

Partly cloudy skies tonight into Tuesday morning in Lincoln, with overnight temperatures expected to fall to the middle 70s.

Those behind the incoming cold front will see afternoon temperatures in the middle 80s across northern and central Nebraska. Southeast Nebraska will spend some time ahead of the front, bringing our afternoon highs to the middle and upper 90s.

Be prepared for the heat and humidity in the Capital City for most of the day on Tuesday. Temperatures should return to the 90s by noon and will remain there until the cold front passes.

Factoring in the humidity for Tuesday afternoon, feels-like temperatures will be in the triple digits for southeast Nebraska.

Wednesday’s forecast is a sight for sore eyes, with highs returning to the lower and middle 80s statewide.

The extended forecast offers some hope for those anxiously awaiting fall-like temperatures. An additional disturbance will move through the central plains towards the end of the work week, bringing chances for showers and storms through early next week. Highs during this time may even drop below average, down to the 70s.
