Nebraska man sentenced for deaths of 2 Wayne State students

Robert Mahler will go to prison for vehicular homicide in an accident that killed Alexis Calfee and Christopher Oberg.

Robert Mahler, 55, of Hubbard, Nebraska was sentenced Monday to at least 51 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to two counts of motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence.

The accident happened in September of last year, when police say Mahler was driving the wrong way down Highway 9, near Emerson, Nebraska.

He hit an oncoming motorcycle driven by 20 year old, Christopher Oberg of Mapleton. Oberg and his passenger, 19 year old, Alexis Calfee of Bennet, Nebraska died at the scene. The two were students at Wayne State College.
