LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Nebraska defensive back earned this week’s Big Ten Freshman of the Week award following the team’s win against Indiana.

Malcolm Hartzog scooped a blocked punt and ran it 30-yards into the endzone to help the Huskers take the lead in the second quarter.

The last Husker to receive the award was wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who put up 123 yards against Northwestern in 2019.

Nebraska hasn’t had a blocked punt return touchdown since 2009, according to the Big Ten.

It was the team’s first special teams touchdown since 2019.

The Huskers’ matchup against Indiana also marked Hartzog’s first start on defense after mostly playing in special teams in the first four games.

Nebraska earned its first Big Ten conference win of the season against Indiana.

With a 2-3 record, the Huskers are now tied for first in the Big Ten West.

Nebraska’s next matchup will see them travel to Piscataway, New Jersey to face Rutgers.
