LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska’s upset bid comes up just short as No. 6 Illinois hangs on for a 77-72 win in overtime in Lincoln.
It was back-and-forth much of the night. After Nebraska went on a 13-2 run, Illinois rallied back scoring 10-straight points. The Illini led 56-52 with with under eight minutes remaining.
Trey McGowens put the Huskers back on top 58-56 with under five minutes left in the half. The game was all tied up, 66-66, with 16 seconds left. Nebraska couldn’t get a basket, sending the Huskers to their first overtime game of the season.
Nebraska couldn’t get anything going in overtime, and fell to Illinois.
Mayen had his best game of the season with 16 points, McGowens finished with 13. Ayo Dosunmu led all scorers with 31 points.
