LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Authorities say a traffic stop on Interstate 80 turned into a high-speed pursuit and manhunt that ended in Lincoln.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says deputies stopped a driver in a White Jeep with Minnesota plates near mile marker 391 around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver sped away towards Lincoln, reaching speeds of 100 mph, LSO said.

Once the pursuit reached city limits, deputies terminated the pursuit but found the Jeep abandoned a short time later just north of 14th and Superior.

LSO, Lincoln Police and the Nebraska State Patrol set up a perimeter and searched for about an hour but were unable to locate the suspect.

The NSP Airwing was also called in to aid with the search.

Goodrich Middle School was placed in ‘secure’ mode during the search and students were able to be safely dismissed after law enforcement cleared the scene.

LSO says there is no threat to public safety as this time.

Authorities continue to search for the suspect.
