Inmate convicted of assault goes missing from Omaha correctional facility

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Police are on the lookout after another Nebraska inmate went missing Sunday.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says Julian Tapia, 20, removed his electronic monitor about a mile from the Community Corrections Center-Omaha.

Tapia was sentenced to eight to 21 years for first- and second-degree assault in Buffalo County back in 2020.

His tentative release was scheduled for August of 2030, and he has a parole hearing set for next year.

Tapia is described as a 6-foot-4, 190-pound Hispanic male. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Prison officials ask that any relevant information on his whereabouts be forwarded to the Nebraska State Patrol.
