Investigation into Nebraska headstone business finds victims lost over $200,000
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A nearly two-month investigation into a Nebraska headstone business found that victims lost over $200,000.
That’s according to the Grand Island Police Department, which says it reviewed 59 incidents involving Monument Advisors.
Thirty-seven are being forwarded to the Hall County Attorney’s Office for review.
In those cases, investigators say the owner, Kelli Lepler, used deceptive practices in eliciting business from customers.
They couldn’t find any evidence that the company tried to fulfill orders after receiving payment.
GIPD thinks this adds up to 33 felony counts of theft by deception, along with four misdemeanors.
The department is also thanking all of the victims for their support and patience.
