Fire investigators are working to determine what caused an abandoned building to go up in flames Thursday night.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to the fire at a vacant home near NW. 48th W. Holdrege around 8:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found the house fully engulfed. Several passersby called 911 to report the fire.

Firefighters employed a “defense-only” strategy, meaning the fire was extinguished from the outside. It took crews about 30 minutes to control the blaze.

The home is on property owned by Lincoln Public Schools, but no other LPS property was damaged.

No injuries were reported.
