IRS announces extension for tax relief for 82 Nebraska counties affected by drought

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced today the availability of an extension of tax relief for farmers and ranchers.

There are 82 Nebraska counties that qualify for an extension. There are 49 states and other regions that also qualify.

The farmers and ranchers must show that a drought prompted certain purchases that may qualify for tax relief.

“Large swaths of the United States continue to experience drought conditions, distressing hard-working American farmers and ranchers,” IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano said. “By extending relief for those who sell or exchange livestock, the IRS is providing much needed support to those who feed our nation.”

The counties that qualify are Adams, Antelope, Arthur, Banner, Blaine, Boone, Box Butte, Boyd, Brown, Buffalo, Butler, Cedar, Chase, Cherry, Cheyenne, Clay, Colfax, Cuming, Custer, Dakota, Dawes, Dawson, Deuel, Dixon, Dodge, Douglas, Dundy, Fillmore, Franklin, Frontier, Furnas, Gage, Garden, Garfield, Gosper, Grant, Greeley, Hall, Hamilton, Harlan, Hayes, Hitchcock, Holt, Hooker, Howard, Kearney, Keith, Keya Paha, Kimball, Knox, Lancaster, Lincoln, Logan, Loup, Madison, McPherson, Merrick, Morrill, Nance, Perkins, Phelps, Pierce, Platte, Polk, Red Willow, Rock, Saline, Saunders, Scotts Bluff, Seward, Sheridan, Sherman, Sioux, Stanton, Thomas, Thurston, Valley, Washington, Wayne, Webster, Wheeler, and York.
