‘It’s heartbreaking’: Fairbury community mourns death of 2-year-old boy

Authorities say two-year-old Hollen Siedschlag was found covered in bruises and with two black eyes in the closet of an apartment.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Fairbury community is mourning the loss of a little boy.

Authorities say two-year-old Hollen Siedschlag was found covered in bruises and with two black eyes in the closet of an apartment. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The man accused in his death, 18-year-old Jake Gonzalez, was out on bond after being charged with an unrelated shooting.

It’s a loss that has shaken many in the community.

“As a mother, it’s heartbreaking,” said Lynn Stout, who worked with Hollen’s mother.

Hollen’s daycare provider, Michelle Moore, says he was always happy and smiling. For her, the loss is especially painful, as her own two-year-old son was a playmate of Hollen’s.

“My son was in the same room as him at daycare and they played together all the time,” she said.

Moore said based on Hollen’s day-to-day demeanor, there was no indication that something was going going on at home.

“He just seemed like a normal happy child,” she said. “You wouldn’t even notice anything was going on.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the family. You can find it by clicking HERE.
