Kearney Police Department receives special invoice from local flower shop
It's "Police Week" in Kearney, and one local business celebrated its law enforcement with a kind gesture.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Kearney Police Department was shocked when it received an invoice from Divas Floral Shop and Boutique on Wednesday. The department had ordered a wreath honoring fallen officers for Police Week.
“We just thought the invoice would be a creative way to not only donate back to them, but also to tell them how much we appreciate them,” florist Stacy Jeanperrin-Schulte said.
Part of the invoice reads:
Discount for keeping our streets safe, discount for making sure little old ladies cross the street safely, discount for facing danger every day and so on. At the bottom, there is a message saying thank you to the police department. The balance on the invoice is zero.
“Each donation added up to the total of the wreath and that’s kind of how we did that for them,” Jeanperrin-Schulte said.
The flower shop has been in Kearney for nearly nine years, and has always supported local law enforcement.
“We see these guys in here all the time,” Jeanperrin-Schulte said. “They’re big customers of ours. It’s always nice to see their reaction to something, just a little silly and light-hearted like that.”
Kearney Police Sgt. Derek Luke who was the first to open the invoice. He said it made him smile, and he immediately showed the police chief.
“We feel very blessed to be working and living in Kearney, Nebraska,” Sgt. Luke said. “It is so good to live in a town where you’re supported by local businesses. That’s what sets a place like this apart from others.”
It was the perfect gift for Police Week.
“Without them, we would not have the amazing community that we have today,” Jeanperrin-Schulte said. “They keep us safe and they interact so well with us. That’s why it’s really important to honor them and what they do for us.”
