Lancaster Co. inmate death sparks investigation

A 50-year old inmate at the Lancaster County Department of Corrections has died.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 50-year old inmate at the Lancaster County Department of Corrections has died. Officials found Jeffery Thomas unresponsive in his housing unit. Correctional staff administered life-saving measures until he was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he later died.

Thomas had been incarcerated since August 15, 2020.

The cause of Thomas’s death has not been determined at this time. No other information has been released.

As with all in-custody deaths, a grand jury will be convened to investigate, officials said.
