Lancaster County deputies seize 95 pounds of marijuana in vehicle on I-80

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lancaster County deputies seized several pounds of marijuana and over 100 THC vape cartridges during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said deputies pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation around 9:15 a.m. on Interstate 80, just north of Lincoln.

After speaking with the driver, 28-year-old Joseph Thomas, and passenger, 27-year-old Jovan Thornton, deputies developed probable cause and searched the vehicle.

Inside, deputies found two 9 mm handguns, 95 pounds of marijuana, 111 THC vape cartridges and eight packages of THC gummies, according to Houchin.

Thomas and Thornton, both of Milwaukee, were then taken into custody.

Thronton was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, evading drug tax, possession of money during a drug violation, possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony and a concealed handgun permit violation.

Houchin said Thomas was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, evading drug tax and possession of money during a drug violation.
