LFR hosting blood drive to honor those fallen on 9/11 25 years ago
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) is turning the 25th anniversary of 9/11 into a day of action. Their Act of Service Blood Drive is being hosted in order to honor those who lost their lives 25 years ago.
The blood drive, their third annual, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on Sept. 11 at Fire Station #1. A free t-shirt will be handed out to all who donate.
One of the goals is to remember the event through positive acts of service for the community.
“My kids don’t even really remember but the only positive spin was the sense of community and patriotism that people had,” MJ Lierman, LFR Spokesperson, said.
LFR partnered with Nebraska Community Blood Bank to ensure the most donations possible, highlighting the recent blood crisis blood banks have been facing.
Outside of the Act of Service Blood Drive, the whole month of September has been established as National Emergency Preparedness month. LFR urges residents to donate blood even if they can’t make it to the Act of Service Blood drive.
