LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home in south Lincoln on Thursday.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to the home near 20th and Hwy. 2 around 11 a.m.

Smoke could be seen from several blocks away.

Crews arrived to find the garage engulfed in flames, but were able to knock the fire down quickly.

“We happened to have a fire rig just around the corner,” LFR spokeswoman Nancy Crist said.

Crist said one man was home at the time. He, along with a dog, got out of the home safely.

The garage is considered a total loss, and investigators are still working to determine how far the flames extended into the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
