Lincoln Animal Control finds deceased cat severely underweight, owner arrested
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Sunday, Sept. 13, Lincoln Animal Control (LAC) responded to a call regarding a deceased cat.
The cat was found near 40th Street and Normal Boulevard underneath a tree in a cat bed. LAC responders noticed the cat to be severely underweight.
The cat’s owner was found with the cat’s microchip. Upon contact, the owner admitted she did not have any cat food and the cat had been losing weight since April. The owner also confirmed she had not taken the cat to the vet.
According to LAC, the owner claimed to be feeding the cat “people” food although no human food that could be fed to cats was found in the refrigerator. The cat was sent for a necropsy, an examination of an animal body, and results showed the cat was severely malnourished.
Lincoln Police Department arrested the owner for felony animal cruelty.
