Lincoln Children’s Zoo prepares for a rejuvenated 2021
Restrictions are down, attendance is up, and there's lots of fun planned.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Children’s Zoo was open in 2020, but given the way things were through the year, it’s no surprise that everyone is looking forward to a new summer of fun.
“A lot of things happen[ed] last year, but we weren’t very open last year”, said John Chapo, President and CEO of the Children’s Zoo. That means there’s a lot of demand for a fun-filled 2021.
If you visit the Zoo’s website, you’ll see their mission is “to enrich lives through firsthand interaction with living things”. Now that COVID restrictions are on the decline, the hands-on portion of that interaction can resume.
The list is very impressive: “Feeding a giraffe, playing in the splash stream, climbing up Ellie the Elephant, touching the cockroaches in The Hive.”
Events and experiences for families and kids make up a large portion of the fun at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, but there are other things to look forward to. Brews at the Zoo, for instance. That is coming up on the afternoon and evening of June 26th. Helping to round out the day will be music and drinks in the new green space, which can also be used for meetings and festivals.
“There’s so much happening at the zoo this year”, said Chapo. “There’s been more things happening, and more coming, because this is early June. We’ve got a lot of summer ahead of us.”
