Lincoln City Council members sworn in
Three City Council members were sworn in on Monday, one of them, a new addition.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —As one door closes, another one opens at Lincoln City Council. Three members were sworn in, Sandra Washington and Bennie Shobe both returning after being re-elected, and Tom Beckius, preparing for his first term.
Beckius takes over Roy Christensen’s seat after he was not re–elected in the city’s general election on May 7th. There was no shortage of applause and thanks to Christensen for his 8 years of service.
“One thing I have always appreciated about you and realized about you, is that you have a God given talent for hearing and helping people here,” James Michael Bowers said.
That talent is the number one thing Christensen said he has learned from his time.”Listen first and listen second. It’s kind of like a measure twice cut once. Listen more than you speak,” Christensen said.
Beckius said he will take a lot from Christensens’ time on the council, but is excited for the path ahead.
“I’m looking forward to getting work done on housing affordability in our community and see what we can do to move the ball forward on that issue,” Beckius said after being sworn in.
The council also elected their new chair, James Michael Bowers, and Vice Chair, Tammy Ward.
