Lincoln East falls to Millard South in windy Spartan Invite championship

On a windy Saturday, Millard South outlasted Lincoln East in a high-scoring Spartan Invite championship.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On a windy Saturday, Millard South outlasted Lincoln East in the Spartan Invite championship.

Braden Cannon got the scoring started with an RBI double in the top of the first to bring home Braden Sweet to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Brayden Smith batted in two RBIs. Millard South led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Garrett Springer’s inside-the-park home run was one of the highlights of the game for Lincoln East. Facing Conlin Grady in the bottom of the second, Springer found a gap in right field and circled the bases to score the Spartans’ first run of the game.

After a Lincoln East balk gave Millard South a 4-1 lead in the top of the third, the Spartans answered back with a 3-run inning. Keegan Brink hit an RBI to bring home Noah Walters. Two batters later, AJ Evasco launched a laser to left field, scoring a two-run homer to tie the game at four.

Millard South took control of the game with JD Moffett’s grand slam in the sixth inning to put the Patriots up six.

The two teams combined for five home runs, with Millard South coming out on top, 14-10.
