LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Allison Roh scored the tie-breaking basket with 5.7 seconds left, and Lincoln East finished its run through the state tournament as the No. 8 seed with a 48-46 victory over Millard West in the Class A girls basketball final Saturday night.
Roh tied it at 46 when she made the second of two free throws with 1:09 left. Roh then blocked Logan Black’s shot to give the Spartans a final possession. Grace Berry took the inbound pass coming out of a timeout, dribbled into the lane and, as defenders collapsed on her, she found Roh alone to the side of the basket. Roh took the bounce pass and banked it in.
Philomena Lammers’ last-second shot from under the basket slipped off the rim.
Barry and KJ Roh scored 13 points apiece to lead the Spartans (23-5). They won their first title since 2004 after upsetting No. 1 seed South Sioux City in the first round and beating Millard South in double overtime in the semifinals.
Lammer made 7 of 11 shots from the field while scoring 20 points, and she also had 13 rebounds for the Wildcats (23-6).
