Some local firefighters with the Lincoln Fire Benefit Association are going above and beyond the call, giving Hy–Vee gift cards to those in need.
“The benefit association purchased $2000 in Hy–Vee gift cards to donate to members in the community and its members who have been affected the most by this pandemic that we’re all experiencing and going through right now,” said Chad Walters, president.

Each card is worth $100 and Walters says eight cards have been given out so far. The members of the association select and nominate people in the community most affected by the pandemic. One person selected was Courtney Bass after seeing her story of struggling to make ends meet without unemployment benefits, on Channel 8.

“Like I asked for a forward motion any kind of motion and that’s what I got,” said Bass. “The response that I got, including from you guys, has been absolutely incredible and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Bass says she plans to pay it forward and donate some goods to a local food bank. The association will continue to pass out the gift cards throughout the month.
