Lincoln man killed after missing stop sign in central Omaha, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in central Omaha on Friday, police say.

The Omaha Police Department says officers were called to a crash on 96th and I Streets just before 2:30 p.m.

Police think an eastbound Ford Focus missed a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by a southbound Jeep Cherokee.

The Ford’s driver, identified as 45-year-old William Peters of Lincoln, was taken to an Omaha hospital as responders worked to save his life.

Peters was declared dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

The Jeep’s driver, 24-year-old Lauren Pelzer of Omaha, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, police say.
