Lincoln Pius X holds on to beat Beatrice
BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) – Controversial refereeing and a missed field goal kept the scoring mum in the fourth quarter of the Thunderbolts vs. Orangemen game.
But the Thunderbolts of Lincoln Pius X won 21-14 on Friday night.
Beatrice had the ball to start the fourth quarter, and the Orangemen got down the field to the red zone.
On fourth down, Shelton Crawford fired a pass into the end zone, but Pius’ Andrew Davis was in the way and appeared to impede the receiver’s ability to make the catch.
But the officials didn’t call defensive pass interference, leading to a turnover on downs.
Beatrice coach Jeff Kezeor was livid on the sidelines when an official told him there was no call because there was “no contact.”
Pius X got the ball and marched down the field, but some stout defense from the Orangemen forced a field goal attempt.
With the wind blowing, the kick was missed wide.
The score remained 21-14.
Beatrice had another chance to score and tie the game.
The Orangemen once again drove down the field, but this time, Crawford’s pass in the end zone was picked off by Jack Schaefers.
Pius X got the necessary first down the next drive to run out the clock and win the game.
