Lincoln Police Department announces Memorial Weekend Traffic Enforcement Project

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department announced a high-visibility traffic enforcement project during Memorial Day weekend.
According to the department, additional officers will monitor O Street between 17th and 84th streets during the evenings of May 22-24.
Officers will focus on dangerous driving behavior, trespassing on private property and closed business lots, littering, excessive noise and alcohol-related violations.
According to LPD, Memorial Day weekend has traditionally attracted large gatherings on O Street between 44th and 52nd streets to display and admire customized and specialty vehicles.
Officials said LPD has routinely observed an increase in hazardous driving, including excessive speed, reckless driving and other violations that pose safety concerns for both drivers and spectators.
A grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office funds the enforcement project.
