Lincoln Police helping close roads, guide traffic for weekend runs

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Mayor’s Run and the Lincoln Marathon will be held this weekend, meaning a number of streets will be shut down.

The city says more than 6,000 people are going to participate in the events, so the public should expect delays in traffic.

Lincoln Police said officers are ready to help keep racers safe and guide traffic during the events.

Roads will start closing at 6:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. All the roads should be open again by 1 p.m.

“We just ask people to pay attention to the officers at the intersection,” Capt. Mike Woolman said. “They’re working to get them through as quick as we can. There’ll be a lot of distraction with the runners and other spectators along the sides of the streets, but if they can pay attention to the officers, the officers will get them through safely and quickly as we possibly can.”

Woolman said officers will also be around to assist with any other emergencies that happen.

He also id it’s going to be warm this weekend, so anyone going out to the events should remember to stay hydrated.

Police will also be live-tweeting updates as soon as roads open back up.

Lincolnites can check out the city’s website for a more detailed map of the weekend’s road closures.
