Three people arrested in Lincoln homicide
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three people were arrested Thursday in connection with Lincoln’s first homicide of the year.
Authorities arrested Derrick Pearson, 32, and Briana Jelinek, 31, on suspicion of manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Micah Berggren, 25, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Police have not yet named the victim.
About 6:30 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of two men fighting near 28th and F Streets and found an unresponsive 57-year-old male, according to police.
Officers attempted life-saving measures, and the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
A Lancaster County deputy saw the suspects getting into separate vehicles at a U-Suds a block away from the scene of the slaying, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
Both vehicles were pulled over, and the three were arrested.
Police say they will release more details Friday morning.
