Lincoln Police officer receives Officer of the Year award after 10 years with LPD

As a new class of Lincoln Police officers promised to protect and serve at their graduation ceremony Wednesday night, another was honored for his years of doing just that.

“It’s one of those jobs where instead of standing on the sidelines saying somebody should do something about that, I have the ability to go do something about that,” said Officer Andrew Vocasek, recipient of the Officer of the Year award.

Vocasek has been an officer with the Lincoln Police Department for 10 years.

He received the award due to his diligent work and dependable advice to other officers, among other things.

He says he’s proud to be a part of the community he serves.

“It’s a wonderful, very supportive community. I appreciate every single time somebody comes up and says thank you and this is a thank you,” Vocasek said.

Vocasek works the third shift for LPD. He says even though they see some of the strangest and scariest things during those hours, his love for his job and his community has never wavered.
