UPDATE: Mom tackles, fights off attempted kidnapping suspect

Police say a Lincoln mother and her child are unharmed after she reportedly fought off a would-be kidnapper.

The 36-year-old woman told police she was pushing her two-year-old son in a stroller near 80th and Yellow Knife Drive around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman reported an older gold Jeep-style SUV pulled beside them and stopped and a man got out and tried to pull her son from the stroller by his leg. The boy’s mom told police she fought with the man, tackling him in a bear-hug and kicking him. At some point, the woman was thrown into a light pole but was not injured, police said.

The man got back into the SUV and fled the scene.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his 40s or 50s, about 6’1″ tall, 250 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, a receding hairline and a thin, pointy nose.

Lincoln Police are searching for video surveillance in the area, and ask anyone with information to call them at (402) 441-6000, or Crimestoppers at (402) 475-3600.
