LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Police are getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day festivities — and any impaired drivers that come with it.

The Lincoln Police Department says more officers will be on patrol this Friday as part of a special enforcement detail for the holiday.

Officers will be conducting alcohol compliance checks at a variety of bars and liquor stores around Lincoln.

Afterward, police will be keeping a close eye on traffic across the city with an emphasis on pulling over impaired drivers.

The department hopes the special enforcement will drive down DUI violations and car crashes while promoting responsible drinking and the legal sale of alcohol.

Funding for increased enforcement was given to the department through the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s highway safety office.
