Lincoln Southeast, Norris girls fall short in soccer championship pursuit
Two of the Lincoln area's finest girls soccer teams fell just short of their championship goals, as both Lincoln Southeast and Norris finished as state runner-ups.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two of the Lincoln area’s finest girls soccer teams fell just short of their championship goals, as both Lincoln Southeast and Norris finished as runner-ups in the Class A and B state title games.
CLASS A: #1 Gretna 6, #2 Lincoln Southeast 1
Lincoln Southwest fell to Gretna, who completed a perfect season with its 2nd straight Class A state title. The Dragons scored five of their Class A championship record six goals in the first half. Cadence Bonneau scored the Knights only goal in the 42nd minute of the game. Lincoln Southeast finishes their season with a record of 16-2.
CLASS B: #1 Omaha Skutt 3, #2 Norris 2 (SO)
In a rematch of last year’s Class B championship, Norris pushed the defending champion Omaha Skutt to their limit. Grace Kohler scored on a free kick goal in the first half, while Kennedy Sullivan scored a putback goal in the second half to tie the game at 2. Neither team scored in overtime, forcing a penalty kick shootout. Both teams scored goals on their first three attempts. Skutt made their fourth goal, while Norris missed their fourth. SkyHawks freshman Corinne Merkel knocked in the game-winning goal to secure to title for Skutt.
