Lincoln standoff began after man refused to move out of family’s home, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department says Monday’s hours-long standoff started with a 36-year-old man refusing to move out of his family’s home.
This all began a little after 11:30 a.m.
Officers were called to the residence near 36th and Van Dorn Streets after they say Steven Shiffermiller made calls to 911, threatening to harm his family.
Shiffermiller eventually barricaded himself inside the home, according to LPD.
An armored vehicle was used to breach the residence, which included tearing down a door.
Shiffermiller was then arrested about three hours into the standoff.
Police said there was $5,000 worth of damage.
No weapons or explosives were ever located.
