Lincoln teen pleads no contest in crash that killed friend
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln teenager charged as an adult in a 2018 police chase crash that killed a passenger in the vehicle he was driving has pleaded no contest in the case.
Anthony Moreno, 17, pleaded no contest Wednesday to felony motor vehicle homicide, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and theft in the crash that killed 14-year-old Zayne Yost, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
Prosecutors have said Moreno was 15 and didn’t have a driver’s license when he and a group of boys stole a sport utility vehicle they found running on the morning of Dec. 26, 2018. When police tried to stop the SUV, a chase ensued. The SUV later swerved off Interstate 80 and rolled, injuring Moreno and two other teens and killing Yost, authorities said.
Moreno faces up to seven years in prison when he’s sentenced at a later date.
