Lincoln woman lost over $50,000 in bitcoin scam, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 67-year-old woman lost over $50,000 in a months-long scam involving bitcoin, Lincoln Police say.
On Friday, the woman reported the scam, which began after she was notified of fraudulent charges on her bank account from Amazon.
She then called a man, who told her that he was with the bank’s “fraud department,” police say.
Over the course of two months, the woman made withdrawals from her 401(k) to buy bitcoin.
The man told her she’d get two checks in the mail, one for $51,000 and another for $18,999. But the checks never came.
Police say the woman lost a total of $52,000.
