Lisa Montgomery’s execution date re-instated
The only woman on federal death row is set to be executed this month
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- An execution date has been re-instated for the only woman on federal death row.
Lisa Montgomery is now slated to be executed on January 12, which is before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, who promised to abolish the federal death penalty.
Montgomery will be the first woman executed by the government since 1953. That year Bonnie Brown Heady and Ethel Rosenberg faced the chair.
Montgomery was convicted in 2004 of strangling a Missouri woman to death who was eight months pregnant. She then cut the baby out of the woman’s womb and kidnapped the child. The infant survived.
A previous judge vacated her execution date but an appeals panel ruled on Friday that the delay was wrong.
