LLCHD reports increased cases of cyclospora infection in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — 33 cases of the cyclospora infection have been confirmed in Lancaster County. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) reported that there has been a recent increase in cases.

Out of the 33, 30 were acquired in the United States.

The LLCHD said the current case count is higher than typic numbers seen this time of year.

Multiple outbreaks have been occurring throughout the U.S., with federal investigators determining iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico is the most probable cause.

The investigation into whether the Lancaster County cases are related to the outbreaks is ongoing.

“Our investigations are ongoing,” said Kerry Kernen, Health Director. “We’re working with state and federal partners as we continue to conduct in-depth interviews with community members who became ill and look for potential commonalities among cases. We’ll provide updates as we learn more.”
