UPDATE: Local business braces for their first Husker game day

UPDATE:

Screamers, a cabaret bar down in the Haymarket, opened in January.

They’ve served on the weekends and during holidays, but they haven’t yet gone through the gauntlet of a Husker game day.

This Saturday is not just any game day.  It’s Scott Frost’s debut as Husker football coach.

"We’re very excited to be here at this moment in time because we can feel the excitement, it’s very palpable down here how excited husker fans are for Scott Frost," said owner Kevin Witcher.  "We’re a little nervous as well."

Witcher said he knows the fans will be out and they’ll be pumped.  That’s why he said they’ll have around 20 staff members on hand to cater to Husker nation.

But he said, as a business new to this, the mystery remains whether or not that’ll be enough.

"That’s kind of where we’re starting, this being our very first husker experience," Witcher said.  "So we’ll see how it goes on Saturday and if we feel we need more come the next week, we’ll staff up more."

Witcher said they want to provide fans with something different from a sports bar atmosphere.  They’ll be grilling burgers and brats on their patio and still serve their featured food items.

They’ll also have live singing throughout the day, but with a twist of Husker spirit.

"You’ll hear live renditions of the Husker fight songs and be able to sing along with the staff," he said.  "We’ll have all of our Husker jerseys and memorabilia on and just be ready to be part of the local atmosphere."

Not to worry: they said they’ll also have a few TVs on so fans can watch Scott Frost’s team.
