Local business feels consequences of road closure on ‘O’ Street

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It has been almost one week since a gas leak near 33rd and ‘O’ Street has caused a road closure, effecting thousands of drivers and one local business in that area.
The ‘All Makes Office Furniture showroom’ just passed the 33rd and ‘O’ intersection is feeling the heat since their store and parking lot have been blocked by crews fixing a gas main that broke last Thursday.
The Vice President of the company, Gretchen Golter, talked with Channel 8 News saying they rely heavily on walk-in clients and that is not happening when the road is shut down and their parking lot is unusable.
“We have deliveries that either have to park at Godfathers or park far away and bring things across, we have had to cancel appointments with vendors” Golter said “this is impacting our business both our staff and our clients.”
The company fixing the gas leak, Black Hills Energy, said they have been working around the clock in rain or shine to fix the problem. Due to the size of the gas main, it is taking longer then it would a much smaller main break.
“While we don’t want to close down a street, it was necessary to ensure the safety for both the businesses, our employees, customers and really everyone so we can get those repairs made safely and get the street back open” Brandy Johnson, the Community Affairs Manager with Black Hills Energy, said.
As of now, the main break should be fixed by Friday, Black Hills Energy telling Channel 8 News more traffic should be flowing by the end of the week.
