LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In honor of National Single Parent Day, Sarah’s Southern Comfort Foods and SoulFull Cocina teamed up to provide free meals to single parents and their kids.

“Sometimes we have to choose between making sure we get all the bills paid, and some of those wants like wanting to take our kids out to have a great meal somewhere,” Sarah’s Southern Comfort Foods owner Sarah Wells said.

Parents and their kids could choose between spaghetti and salad or pulled pork and chips. The event took place in the parking lot of Soundroom in Lincoln.

“It’s really nice to be able to bring people together,” Soundroom’s Taren Kosmicki said.  “The cause for it is great. It comes from a good place in the heart.”

Wells is a newly single parent, and said she’s just now starting to realize how challenging it can be, same for SoulFull Cocina owner Manuel Hurd.

“I was a single parent, my parents were single parents, my wife before I met her was a single parent,” Hurd said. “I know just how rough it can get sometimes. It’s our pleasure to give back. If I can put a smile on people’s face on what we’re doing then I’ve done it all. Today, I feel like I’ve accomplished that.”

SoulFull Cocina will have its grand opening on April 10.
