LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Channel 8 talked to some students and a restaurant manager who all said this football game was going to bring in some needed moral and business.

“I just found out thirty minutes ago and I was a little sad just because I was excited for it to be here in Lincoln,” said Abbie Zoucha, a UNL sophomore. “I just feel like it’s kind of some normalcy getting the games here and stuff .”
“Yea we were looking forward to football season starting this Saturday to help bring in some revenue to give us a little shot in the arm to help us along until this was over,” said Jay Erickson a bar manager for Misty’s Steakhouse and Brewery.

Students say the game cancellation stung as they just got their Husker season back. Erickson says this game cancellation causes loss of thousands of dollars to the business.

“We had a lot of food orders that we had to cancel,” said Erickson. “We had a lot of alcohol orders we had to cancel. It was just a hit and it hits everybody that supplies us too.”

He adds the entire town of Lincoln will feel this loss but will continue to hope that the other games remaining will bring in revenue for downtown Lincoln. Other students added they hope the extra time will help the Huskers watch their opponents, to have an extra edge on the next game.

“I understood but was really disappointed, really empathizing with the players,” said Jake Judge, UNL senior. “I think watching them, they put in a lot of hard work every week to prepare for those games and then during the week you know 3 or 4 days out and they’re like ‘Oh yeah we’re not gonna have this.’”

And the Husker pride continues.

“I mean we’ll still make the best of it we’ll replay some 90’s games,” said Alex Jareche, a UNL freshman.
“There still is some hope there that next year we’ll be able to get into the stadium,” added Judge.

This game cancellation causes a lot of Husker fans to change their plans this Halloween weekend.
