Authorities on Monday released new details on an investigation into a weekend homicide.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister identified the victim as 20-year-old Gavin Hall, of Lincoln.

Officers responded to a home near 40th and Van Dorn in the early morning hours of July 4 where they found Hall with a gunshot wound to the head.

Hall’s roommate – identified by police as 18-year-old Zachariah Serna – was arrested for manslaughter.

Bliemeister said Hall and Serna had been “bantering” when Serna got a shotgun from another room and fired it one time, striking Hall in the head.

Six people were in the home at the time of the shooting, and four of them lived there, Bliemeister said.

Investigators are analyzing a range of evidence, including several cellphones collected at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
