LPD: 2 arrested after string of thefts from cars in south Lincoln

Authorities arrested two people after a string of thefts from cars in south Lincoln on Sunday. 

Lincoln police said 26-year-old Sibit Koang was arrested for felony theft, and 21-year-old Chauncy Bentley was cited for theft and accessory to a felony. A 15-year-old male was also referred to the County Attorney’s Office for providing false information, possession of stolen property, and accessory to a felony, police said. 

The alleged crime spree occurred between 7 and 9 a.m. Sunday. It included approximately 10 cars, and stretched from the area of S 48th and A to S 21st and B, police said. 

Officers responded to multiple reports of people attempting to enter or rummaging through vehicles in the area found three men in the area that matched descriptions from callers. One of the men reportedly tried to hide a handgun from officers. 

Police said total loss from all the vehicles was approximately $379. One victim, an employee at a Lincoln Smoothie King location, had a box of free smoothie coupons valued at $2,500 taken from their vehicle, police said. 

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
