LPD: 2 transported to hospital after suspected opioid overdoses

Lincoln police said two people were taken to the hospital after suffering apparent drug overdoses while driving near a busy intersection.

Emergency crews responded to the area of 27th and Ticonderoga Drive, near 27th and Superior Street, around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

A witness following behind the patients told Channel 8 Eyewitness News he saw them suddenly slump over in their vehicle. Several bystanders rushed to help, and one said the car was running with one of the individual’s foot on the break when they got to the vehicle.

The two people, who were not identified, were taken from the scene as police searched the vehicle.

A Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter saw officers remove bags of what appeared to be a white powdery substance from the car.

A witness said paramedics used Narcan on both individuals.

Police confirmed the two people overdosed on some type of opioid, but did not say exactly what it was. They did not say in what condition the people were transported.

Animal Control personnel removed a dog from the vehicle.
