LPD: 63-year-old Lincoln scammed out $162K

Authorities said a 63-year-old Lincoln woman is out $162,000 after falling victim to an online scam.

The victim reported the scam Monday. She told police she was friended by a person named Ethan on Facebook earlier this year. The scammer “sweet talked” the victim, asking her for money to get home to California from a boat he worked on in the Atlantic ocean, police said.

The scammer asked several times for money, including $3,000 for internet expenses, $30,000 for a vacation from work, and $50,000 for a plane ticket.

Lincoln police said the victim asked Fidelity Investments to remove the money from her 401K and sent it to various locations including Texas and Georgia. Police said Fidelity refused to make a fraud claim since the victim voluntarily withdrew the money.
