LPD announces new memorial honoring fallen soldiers, marking six years since passing of Investigator Mario Herrera

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Police Department (LPD) has revealed a new memorial honoring the seven LPD officers who have died in the line of duty.

Along with that, today marks six years since the passing of Investigator Mario Herrera. Herrera was shot in the line of duty as the suspect tried to escape officers. He served LPD for 23 years and was 50 years old when he passed.

The names of all seven officers are on etched in marble on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. The framed portion of the memorial are the rubbings from pencil and paper of the engraved names.

The names date back to Captain Charles E. Hall, who died in pursuit in 1917.
