UPDATE: Drive-by shooting suspects arrested, 1 a convicted felon

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — UPDATE: A week after a Lincoln man reported to be the victim of a drive-by shooting, police took two suspects into custody.

Around 8 pm Tuesday night, investigations were preparing to serve a search warrant to a resident in the area of E ‘O’ and S 27th Streets. It was then investigators saw a black Mercedes SUV known to frequent the area.

Nine people reportedly got in the car, several of them had been identified as possible suspects in the drive-by shooting case.

Investigators asked a marked police cruiser to pull over the SUV in the area of ‘A’ and 77th Streets.

The SUV slowed down and two teen passengers, a 16 and 15-year-old, ran from the car. The vehicle eventually came to a full stop a few blocks later.

Of the seven people still in the SUV, investigators learned that four of them were minors.

A loaded AR Rifle was found on the floor of the vehicle, at the feet of the minors. A 9 mm handgun was also found in a purse on the front passenger floor.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Sentoris Barnes was found to be a convicted felon, unable to be possessing a firearm. Barnes was arrested on a weapons charge and child abuse.

The front-seat passenger, identified as 35-year-old Latoya Barnes Berry, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and child abuse.

On Tuesday, May 18, around 10:15 p.m., LPD was called to “J” street on the report of a drive-by shooting.

Once they arrived, officers reported talking to a 25-year-old man who told that a vehicle was driving northbound on South 26th Street when a passenger in the backseat began shooting. Then, the man told police the vehicle hit a van parked in the area multiple times, causing approximately $800 in damage.

Officers reported finding a number of shell casings in the area, did a neighborhood canvas, and processed the scene for evidence. This is an ongoing investigation and we’ll update you with the latest details as they come.
